Yakima Skyline 50K - Ellensburg, WA
The Yakima Skyline 50K is a trail race held near Ellensburg, Washington on the Yakima River Canyon rim. The out and back course follows the Yakima Skyline Rim Trail through a high desert rainshadow landscape on lands that are part of the ancestral home of the Yakama people and associated tribes and bands. The route is mostly single track with some rocky jeep road, several steep technical climbs and descents, and exposed ridgelines with little shade.
Distance is 50K with approximately 9,200 ft of elevation gain and 9,200 ft of elevation loss. Aid stations are located at Roza (mile 8 and mile 23), Buffalo (mile 15.5), and a minimal station near mile 28. Full aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, sandwiches, fruit, snacks and basic first aid supplies; the minimal station offers limited food and drink. Cutoff points are enforced at the aid stations.
Runners must be able to carry at least 32 ounces of water on their person during the race; bottles or hydration packs will be checked at bib pickup and failure to meet this requirement may result in disqualification. The start and finish are on private riverfront property south of the Umtanum Creek Recreation Area. Free primitive on-site tent and small RV camping (max 25 feet) is offered to participants; there is no potable water at the campsite and portable toilets will be provided.
