Yakima Skyline 50K
The Yakima Skyline 50K is a trail race near Ellensburg, Washington that follows an out and back route on the Yakima Skyline Rim Trail above the Yakima River Canyon. The course runs through high desert and sagebrush terrain on the eastern side of the Cascade mountains and is exposed to sun, wind and heat. The route is mostly single track with rocky and technical sections and includes long climbs and steep descents.
The course gains about 9,200 ft of elevation and starts near the river valley at roughly 1,300 ft. Major features include sustained climbs of 2,100 plus feet in just over 2 miles, long ridge sections on a rough jeep road, and sharp drops to river valleys. Aid stations are located at mile 8.0, mile 15.5, mile 23.0 and a minimal station near mile 28.0 and are stocked with water, electrolyte drink, snacks and basic first aid items.
Runners must be able to carry at least 32 ounces of water on the course at all times. There is no crew access and drop bag service is available only at the Buffalo aid station. Participants may use free primitive tent or small RV camping on the private start finish property on a limited basis; there is no water or electrical hookups and portable toilets will be provided.
