Yakima Skyline 50K
The Yakima Skyline 50K on April 17, 2027 takes place outside Ellensburg, Washington in and above the Yakima River Canyon on lands that are part of the ancestral home of the Yakama people and associated tribes and bands. The event is organized by Rainshadow Running.
The course is an out-and-back 50K on eastern Cascade rainshadow terrain. It runs mostly on singletrack with sections of rocky jeep road, and gains more than 9,000 feet of elevation. The route is exposed with little shade and is often hot and dry; it offers views of the canyon and the Yakima River and, on clear days, views toward Tahoma (Mt Rainier), Pahto (Mt Adams) and the Cascade range. Terrain features long climbs, steep technical descents, rolling ridgelines and fields of wildflowers. The finish is along the Yakima River and includes primitive on-site camping.
Aid on course includes three full aid stations and one minimal aid station located roughly at miles 8.0, 15.5, 23.0 and 28.0. Runners must carry the ability to hold at least 32 ounces of water while on course; failing this requirement can result in disqualification. There is no general crew access and drop bag service is provided only at the Buffalo aid station. Free primitive tent and small RV camping (max 25 ft) is available on the private start/finish property, but campers must supply their own water and power is not available.
