Wye Valley Tunnel Run
The Wye Valley Tunnel Run is held on Sunday 18 July 2027 at Wyedean School in Sedbury, Chepstow. The event uses former railway lines and riverside paths through the Wye Valley and includes long tunnel sections on the route.
Distances and formats
- Colourbust: 500m and 2km non-timed fun runs on the Wyedean School football pitch.
- 10km Valley View: one lap, out-and-back, includes 2km in tunnel, largely flat.
- Valley View Half Marathon: two laps, out-and-back, includes 4km in tunnel, largely flat.
- Tintern Station Half Marathon: one lap, riverside trails, includes 2km in tunnel, short rocky section and steps.
- Tintern Station Marathon: two laps, similar to Tintern Half, includes 4km in tunnel, three hour cut off to start lap two.
Course and support Routes are marked and marshalled. Surfaces are mostly compact stone path, old railway track and tarmac; the surface is generally solid but not perfectly smooth. The Tidenham Tunnel is over 1 km long and appears about 3 km into the route. Drink and feast stations are provided: at least one feast stop on the 10km, three on the half marathon and seven on the marathon; water, electrolyte options and a mix of foods including gluten free, dairy free and vegan snacks are available. Flat cola is provided on lap two of the marathon.
Other practical information Wave starts of about 100 runners are used. All runners of 5 km and longer receive a two sided 10 cm x 10 cm event medal; fun run medals may vary. Facilities include on site toilets, a mobile coffee van and a bag drop; there are no changing rooms. On site parking is charged at £2 per car payable to the schools used. The nearest train station is Chepstow, about 1 mile from the start. Buggy runners are permitted on the 10km and Valley View half; canicross is not allowed.
