Course and purpose

The course follows a fourteen-kilometer section of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) between Homestake and Pipestone passes in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. The route is described as providing scenic vistas and notable rock formations. The race is held near the Summer Solstice.

Proceeds are donated to trail projects and youth running programs in southwest Montana. As of 12/31/2024 the race had contributed $18,954 for trail-related support, $3,475 for local emergency, search, and rescue, and $8,850 for youth running programs.
