Trail Racing on the Continental Divide

The Divide Trail Race takes place in Thompson Park, located south of Butte, Montana. The event utilizes the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) and offers two distinct distances for participants:

  • 50K trail race
  • 25K trail race

The course begins and ends at the Eagles Nest parking area at an elevation of 5,725 feet. Runners follow the Milwaukee Road Trail, which takes them through historic train tunnels and across elevated train trestles. Because of the passage through these tunnels, the use of a headlamp is recommended for all participants.

The route includes a climb to Pipestone Pass, reaching a peak elevation of approximately 6,470 feet. The terrain consists of the rolling trails characteristic of the Thompson Park area and the high-altitude landscape of the Continental Divide.
