Workington 5k Series
The Workington 5k Series is a collection of four running events held on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer months. This specific event marks the first race in the series, hosted at the Workington Cricket Club at the Earnest Valentine Ground in Great Britain. Participants have the option to enter individual races or commit to all four dates in the series.
The course is officially measured and certified as accurate by the Association of UK Course Measurers. For this event, runners follow Route B. The competition utilizes chip timing provided by Timing Up North to ensure precise results. On-site logistics include race number collection at the cricket club during the designated registration window and a safety briefing held shortly before the race begins.
Safety measures for the event include a lead bike and a sweeper runner. First aid provision is available on-site. Maps of the route, the race permit, and the measurement certificate are displayed at the event headquarters in accordance with UKA rules.
Prizes are awarded for individual races and the overall series:
- 5 km (Individual)
- 5 km (Four Race Series)
For the individual 5 km race, prizes are given to the first, second, and third male and female finishers. To qualify for the overall series prizes, which are awarded based on five-year veteran age categories, runners must complete at least three of the four scheduled races.
