Lakeland Paws: Dogs @ Dodd Double Header
The Lakeland Paws: Dogs @ Dodd Double Header is the first event of a season finale weekend taking place in Dodd Wood. The event is part of a series focusing on canicross races, though participants are also permitted to run without dogs. This specific event occurs on a Saturday, with a subsequent event held the following day at a different location.
Participants can choose between two fully marked course distances:
- 8 km: A long loop featuring 370m of total ascent.
- 5 km: A shorter route with 210m of vertical gain.
The courses consist of a variety of forest roads and trails. While the majority of the route uses wide trails, there are narrower sections and a steep final descent. Because of the trail width, runners are allowed to compete with up to two dogs. All participating dogs must wear a suitable harness, and the organizers provide equipment to borrow if required.
The event utilizes individual staggered starts to ensure sufficient space for all participants and their dogs. The race is chip timed, and GPX files are provided for navigation. The minimum age for entry is 16 years old. Located near Bassenthwaite Lake, the routes offer views across the water and toward the Northern Fells.
