Kaizen Mountain Hybrid Race
The Kaizen Mountain Hybrid Race is a continuous solo time trial held at Seathwaite Farm Campsite in the Lake District. The event combines erg work, trail running, and strength tasks in a single sequence that athletes complete without breaks between sections.
The course sequence includes a 2 km row on Concept2 ergs, a 5 km bike erg, a 5 km trail run with about 270 m of elevation on an up and back route, a 2 km ski erg section, and 50 sandbag over shoulder reps. Sandbag weights are specified as 50 kg for males and 30 kg for females; each incomplete sandbag rep incurs a one minute penalty. The race finishes with a 25 metre sprint over the line.
Athletes move between a covered erg zone and the trail in a continuous loop. Part of the transition requires a clean pair of gym shoes for the erg zone and trail running shoes for the course. The sandbag area may be covered depending on the weather.
The format is individual time trial with athletes starting next to one another in waves; races are staged every 20 minutes and the day capacity is limited to 42 athletes. Event facilities include a central basecamp, a recovery zone with muscle guns and rollers, sample nutrition options, paid showers, and on site parking for a fee. Winners receive trophies, vouchers, and other prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
