Event Overview
The Wings for Life World Run in Bellingham, Washington, is a global running event designed for both runners and wheelchair participants. The race takes place at Lake Padden Park and follows a unique format without a traditional static finish line. Participants use a mobile application to track their progress while being pursued by a moving digital boundary.
Course Details
The event features a 2.6 mile loop around Lake Padden. The route remains close to the water for the entire circuit, passing through wooded areas. The terrain is varied, consisting of a mix of paved surfaces, packed gravel, and natural trails characteristic of the Pacific Northwest region.
The Virtual Catcher Car Format
Instead of a fixed distance, participants run until they are overtaken by the Virtual Catcher Car via the mobile app. The virtual vehicle starts its pursuit 30 minutes after the official race start, beginning at a speed of 14 km/h. It gradually increases its pace at set intervals until the final participant is caught.

This is an App Run event where local participants gather to run the course together using their mobile devices for timing and tracking. All entry fees and donations are managed by the organizing foundation to fund spinal cord research projects.
