Skagit Flats Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K
The event is the 49th annual Skagit Flats races at Burlington-Edison High School in Burlington, WA. It offers the following distances:
- Marathon - 26.2 miles
- Half Marathon - 13.1 miles
- 5K - 3.1 miles
The marathon course is flat, runs through rural Skagit Valley farmlands, and is a Boston qualifying course. The marathon and half are USATF certified with course numbers WA21009RMB and WA19017RMB. The finish for the longer races is on the Burlington-Edison High School track. The course favors low-traffic roads but is open to vehicle traffic; runners must yield to vehicles and follow Washington state pedestrian laws. Participants must complete the course within six hours.
Chip timing with start and finish mats will be used and live results are published online. Full-service aid stations are staffed by local cross-country teams and supply water, FLUID Performance sports drink, and Honey Stinger gels; water-only stations are located near some turnaround points. Porta potties will be placed adjacent to aid stations. Volunteers and course monitors will be present and some volunteers carry cell phones for assistance.
Registration is limited to 800 participants. The 5K includes an age-based student discount for ages 18 and younger; discounts for active duty military, veterans, and first responders are also offered. Packet pickup is available the day before at a local running shop and on race morning at the high school.
Race rules include wearing bibs on the front, no strollers or dogs, running no more than two abreast, and avoiding loud headphones. Walkers are welcome but those at a 16+ minute per mile pace should plan accordingly. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
