Skagit Flats Marathon, Half & 5k
The Skagit Flats event features three road races: a Marathon, a Half Marathon, and a 5k. Located in Burlington, Washington, the course is known for being flat and at sea level. The marathon serves as a Boston qualifier with USATF certification (# WA21009RMB), while the half marathon is also USATF certified (# WA19017RMB).
The flat and fast route takes participants through rural farmlands in the Skagit Valley. Starting on Victoria Street south of Burlington-Edison High School, the course primarily utilizes rural roads with low traffic and lower speed limits. Runners share the roadway with vehicle traffic and must follow Washington state pedestrian laws, staying to the left side of the road. The races conclude on the high school track.
Available distances include:
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- 5k (3.1 miles)
The event utilizes chip timing with mats at both the start and finish lines. Full-service aid stations are positioned approximately every two miles, offering water, sports drinks, and gels, with additional water-only stations near miles 12 and 18. Porta potties are located adjacent to these aid stations.
The course has a strict 6-hour time limit, closing at 2:15 pm. For safety reasons, no strollers, dogs, or skates are permitted. Upon finishing, all participants receive a medal and have access to water and food. Locker rooms at the high school are available for showers and changing after the race.
