Winchester Half Marathon
The Winchester Half Marathon is a road running event that starts and finishes in the centre of Winchester, specifically outside the Guildhall. The route follows a hilly course that transitions from the historic city streets into the surrounding countryside and the village of Hursley. Participants pass several local landmarks during the race, including St Catherine's Hill, Winchester Cathedral, and the statue of King Alfred the Great.
The event offers multiple participation options:
- 13.1 miles (Half Marathon)
- 1 km Kids Fun Run
- 13.1 miles Virtual Half Marathon
The half marathon is open to participants aged 17 and over, while the Kids Fun Run is held around the Cathedral grounds for children aged 14 and under. For the main race, runners can choose between a standard entry or a "no medal" option at a reduced price.
The event requires specific road closures in the area to accommodate the runners. For those driving to the venue, there is a multi-storey car park located a five-minute walk from the start line, which offers free parking on Sundays. The organizers provide a code of conduct for all athletes to ensure sportsmanship during the competition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
