Event Overview

The Willie Stargell 5K Road Race is held in Wilmington, North Carolina at the Mayfaire Town Center. The event raises funds to support individuals living with kidney disease through research, patient care, and treatment, honoring Baseball Hall of Fame member Willie Stargell.

Distances and Details

Participants can choose from the following events:

  • 1 Mile: This event is not timed.
  • 5K: This event is timed.
  • 5K Virtual: A virtual participation option is available.

Both the 1 Mile and 5K events take place on a flat, paved road course around the Mayfaire Town Center with minimal road traffic. The course is described as stroller and wheelchair friendly. Dogs are not allowed on the course.

Participant Perks

All 5K and 1 Mile finishers receive a finisher medal. All registrants receive a race T-shirt, with size guaranteed for registrations before March 18, 2026. Every participant also receives a complimentary ticket to an awards brunch at the Coquina Fish Bar Restaurant following the race.

Awards

Awards are presented in several categories. For the 5K, the top three overall male and female finishers are recognized, along with the top two in various age groups.
