Race for the Planet

The Race for the Planet is a fundraising running event benefiting the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. The event takes place on April 19, 2026, at Battle Acre Park (1610 Fort Fisher Blvd. South) in Kure Beach, North Carolina.

Participants can choose from three events:

In-Person 5K
1 Mile Fun Run (Non-Timed)
Virtual 5K

Registration fees contribute to the aquarium's mission of inspiring appreciation and conservation of aquatic environments. The event includes sustainability initiatives. For instance, early registrants receive a 100% organic cotton shirt printed with water-based ink. Participants can also opt out of receiving a shirt, which then donates part of the fee to the aquarium's sustainability programs.

Packet pickup is available on the Friday before the event and on race morning at the park. Teams of 10 runners are eligible for a discount. The organizers encourage carpooling and bringing reusable water bottles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
