The Bataan Death Memorial March 2026
The Bataan Death Memorial March will take place in Leland, North Carolina on April 25, 2026 as a companion event hosted by VFW Post 12196. It commemorates the long‑running Bataan Death Memorial March challenge that has been observed at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico for almost 40 years.
The event combines a virtual long‑distance component with in‑person finish events. Participants complete a 60 mile virtual walk and conclude with in‑person running and walking events. There are three participation levels: runners, walkers, and ruckers. Ruckers are required to carry a 30 pound weighted rucksack.
Distances and formats:
- 60 mile virtual walk logged by participants
- 3K in-person finish event
- 5K in-person finish event
All proceeds from the event are directed to VCAP The Veterans Creative Arts Program, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) based in Leland. VCAP provides assistance to veterans, first responders, and their families—especially those who have experienced trauma through military service or job related activities—through a variety of creative arts programs.
Registration followed Early Bird, Normal, and Late periods in 2026: Early Bird Jan 1 to Feb 1; Normal Feb 2 to Mar 15; Late Mar 16 until race day.
