Bataan Death Memorial March 5K - Leland, NC
The event in Leland on April 25, 2026 is a companion to the long standing Bataan Death Memorial March and is hosted by VFW Post 12196. Proceeds from the event will be directed to VCAP, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Leland that provides creative arts programs to assist veterans, first responders, and their families, particularly those affected by trauma related to military service or job duties.
The event combines a virtual endurance component with an in person finish. The virtual element is a 60 mile walk that participants may log prior to the in person gathering. The in person component concludes with short course events and three participation categories for the in person portion: runners, walkers, and ruckers. Ruckers are required to carry a 30 pound weighted rucksack.
Registration pricing is tiered by date: Early Bird registration is $60 from January 1 to February 1, 2026; Normal registration is $66 from February 2 to March 15, 2026, a price noted as reflecting the 66 miles that were marched; Late registration is $75 from March 16, 2026 through the day of the event.
