Wildlands Summit Run
The Wildlands Summit Run is the Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust's annual trail running event in Orland, Maine. This edition continues a multi-year course layout and serves as a fundraiser for the Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust.
Distances:
- 6.2-mile Trail Run to the summit of Great Pond Mountain
- 1-mile Fun Run to the banks of the Dead River
The 6.2-mile route ascends to the 1,009 foot summit and includes about 1,660 feet of total climb. Runners follow single-track forest trails that pass scenic lookouts and large granite slabs, and encounter roots, rocks, and mud. The route returns on a technical descent that uses downhill mountain bike trails with berms, finishing on Dead River Road at Half-Mile Field where there is a gathering for food and awards. GPMCT merchandise will be available for sale.
The 1-mile Fun Run follows the Picnic Trail down to the Dead River banks.
Course details are subject to change. Parking is accessed through the GPMCT Dead River Trailhead Gate in Orland on Don Fish Road, past the fish hatchery; drivers continue on the gravel road until directed to parking.
GPMCT manages approximately 5,200 acres of mountains, woods, and water for wildlife habitat, sustainable forestry, and community trails. The event supports the land trust's conservation and trail efforts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
