Wildlands Summit Run : Great Pond Mountain
The 33rd Annual Wildlands Summit Run, formerly the Wildlands Trail Run, returns to Great Pond Mountain. Established in 1993, the event is organized as a fundraiser by the Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust (GPMCT), a nonprofit land trust active in Hancock County, Maine.
The main trail run follows a single-track route of about 6.2 miles to the summit. Runners traverse forested trails, pass scenic lookouts, and cross expansive granite slabs while ascending approximately 1,009 feet to the summit. The course includes a technical descent that uses downhill mountain bike trails with berms and finishes at Dead River Road at Half-Mile Field. A separate fun run follows the Picnic Trail to the banks of the Dead River.

Course details are subject to change. Parking is via the GPMCT Dead River Trailhead Gate in Orland on Don Fish Road, past the fish hatchery; participants continue on the gravel road until parking directions are provided. After the races there is a gathering with food and awards, and GPMCT merchandise will be available for sale.
GPMCT manages roughly 5,200 acres of mountains, woods, and water for habitat, sustainable forestry, and community trails. The trail run supports those conservation and trail efforts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
