Whiting Bay Forest Trail Race - Arran
The event on 7 June 2026 is a five mile trail race on the Isle of Arran, organised by Arran Runners and run under Scottish Athletics licenced trail race rules. The course gains over six hundred feet and mainly follows Forestry trails behind Whiting Bay Village.
The route leaves Whiting Bay village and climbs toward Glen Ashdale Falls, crosses the Ashdale Burn immediately above the falls, then runs through forest to a Forestry road that continues northward for about two miles above and behind Whiting Bay. The course then descends via a footpath to Hawthorne Farm, contours south along a farm track, passes through a wicket gate and over a footbridge through the Fairy Glen, follows a footpath to the Golf Club road, and finally descends to the north bank of the Ashdale Burn before emerging in Montrose Terrace at the finish.
Views of Holy Isle and Ayrshire can be seen from the Forestry road, weather permitting. Only about half a mile of the course is on tarmac road, so trail shoes with good grip are recommended. Whiting Bay has cafes and eating places and a pub about 250 yards from the finish.
Entries open 17 February and close 5 June. Entry fees are £8 for Scottish Athletics members and £10 for non members. Entrants must be 16 or older on race day. Entry limit 100.
