Whiting Bay Forest Trail Race - Arran
The Whiting Bay Forest Trail Race is a 5 mile trail event held on the Island of Arran. The course utilizes forestry trails behind Whiting Bay Village and involves a total ascent of over 600 feet. Organized by Arran Runners, this Scottish Athletics licensed race is designed to accommodate day-trippers from the mainland.
The route begins on the Glen Ashdale track near the A841 main road. Participants head toward Glen Ashdale Falls and cross the Ashdale Burn. The path leads through the forest onto a forestry road that runs northward for two miles, offering views of Holy Isle and Ayrshire. The course then descends via a footpath to Hawthorne Farm, follows a farm track southward, and passes through a wicket gate into a field. The final section crosses a footbridge through the Fairy Glen and continues along a footpath toward the Golf Club road before descending back to the north bank of the Ashdale Burn to finish at Montrose Terrace.
Approximately half a mile of the course consists of tarmac road, with the remainder on forest tracks and footpaths. Recommended equipment includes trail shoes with grip.
