Ultra Tour of Arran
The Ultra Tour of Arran is a two day off road ultramarathon on the Isle of Arran taking place on 10 and 11 April 2027. The full course covers 60 miles (97 km) and uses Brodick as the Event Village and registration location at Ormidale Park.
The route combines coastal paths, boardwalks, forest trails, mountain passes and glens. Day one runs south along varied terrain for about 28 miles with roughly 3,500 ft of ascent and three pit stops located at approximately 9.5 miles, 14.5 miles and 23 miles. Day two runs north across the island massif for about 30 miles with nearly 6,000 ft of ascent, two pit stops at about 11.5 miles and 20 miles, and mountain sections that include the summit of Goatfell and the area known as the Bog of Doom. Missing a key mountain cut off at the Saddle will redirect participants down Glen Rosa to the finish.
The event is fully waymarked and supported. Bright orange arrows and blue flags mark the route and paid staff and a sweeper bus operate on course. Medical support is provided by a professional event medic team including paramedics and doctors with dedicated vehicles and a private ambulance. Pit stops supply water, juice, snacks, fruit, toilets and a medical presence. Finishers receive a medal and participants collect a Rat Rag at registration; a t shirt is available to add at registration.
Mandatory kit is required for safety and includes a running pack with the supplied satellite tracker, trail running shoes, a minimum 2 litre hydration system, at least 400 kcal of food as emergency supplies, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, a bivvy bag, basic first aid, whistle, a charged mobile phone, full leg cover and additional thermal layers. Participants must be over 18 at registration. Access to the island is via ferry to Brodick from Ardrossan or Troon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
