Whiteface Mountain Races
Whiteface Mountain Races take place at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort on July 4, 2026. The event offers multiple mountain running formats that use alpine slopes, dirt utility roads, and hummocky terrain. The finish is at the top of the Summit Lift; finishers descend to Little Whiteface for a gondola ride to the base or continue by foot.
Distances and formats include:
- Mountain Race : ~6.2 miles / ~10 km, ~3,900 feet gain and loss
- SkyRace : ~12.5 miles / ~20 km, ~7,800 feet gain and loss
- Vertical K : ~2.5 miles / ~4 km, ~3,200 feet vertical
Course surfaces include grassy alpine ski slopes, mountain utility roads, and hummocky alpine ground. The Marshak Mountain Race uses a blend of utility roads and slopes with sections at roughly 40 percent grade. The Vertical K follows a direct, steep line from the resort base to summit with widened upper sections and a looser service-road surface to allow passing.
On-course support includes aid stations with water, electrolyte drink, and summit snacks located at mid-mountain and the summit. Time cutoffs are specified for multi-loop entrants: the two-loop SkyRace has a six-hour cutoff and requires clearing loop one within 2 hours 45 minutes. The Vertical K has a 2.5-hour cutoff with intermediate checkpoints at 1.2 miles and 2 miles.
Additional programming includes a roughly 1-mile Kids Klymber ascent from the top of the gondola and low-key Sunday group runs on nearby trails or peaks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
