Event overview
The Whiteface Mountain Races take place July 4, 2026 at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in Wilmington, NY (5021 NY-86). The event includes multiple race formats on mountain terrain, an afternoon uphill Ascent, a short Kids Klymber, and informal Sunday group runs on local trails.
Race formats and course
Morning mountain races use a lollipop-style loop on mixed surfaces: mountain utility roads, grassy and hummocky slopes, and steep ascents and descents (grades reported up to 64%). Distances and elevation are:
- 10k / ~6.5 miles - one loop, roughly 3,500–3,800 ft gain and loss
- 21k / ~13.1 miles - two loops, roughly 7,600–7,700 ft gain and loss
- Ascent - ~2.3 miles, about 3,100 ft vertical gain
- Kids Klymber - ~1 mile ascent from the top of the gondola
Aid stations on the mountain provide water, electrolyte drink, and snacks at mid-mountain and summit locations. The Ascent follows a direct, steep line using ski slopes, utility road, and alpine terrain. The Marshak Mountain Race description notes around 3,500 ft gain over 10k.
Logistics and entry
Finish is at the top of Whiteface’s Summit Lift; finishers may descend to Little Whiteface for a gondola ride or continue on foot. Entry includes the event and a tee. Poles are permitted.
