Whiteface Mountain Races
The event in Wilmington, NY (5021 Rt. 86) offers several mountain running formats in the Adirondack High Peaks. The courses are noted for high vertical gain and loss per mile and for very steep sections. The terrain is not described as highly technical, but sustained steep ascents and descents can produce strong aerobic demand and significant muscular fatigue.
Race formats on the main day include a Mountain Race (one loop) and a SkyRace (two loops) offered together so entrants can receive credit for both, plus a Vertical K and a Kids Ascent held later in the day. Entrants may register for individual races or for a combined entry called the Vert Junky.
Entry fee covers race entry, a tee, and possibly a finisher item. Poles are permitted; participants are asked to use them responsibly to avoid contact with others. The organizer does not offer refunds after May 1; registrations may be rolled if the participant notifies the organizer no later than May 1. Registration closes ahead of the event and no race day registration is available.
A post-event group run program is planned for the Sunday following the race. These runs are local and athlete led in the High Peaks, require registration, are limited to small groups, and will include product demos. Participants should bring hydration, nutrition, a wind or waterproof jacket, a headlamp, and a way to carry these items. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
