Event overview
The Whiteface Mountain Races take place at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in Wilmington, New York on July 4, 2026. The event offers multiple timed races on mountain terrain, including a kids ascent and Sunday group runs. The finish for the mountain races is at the top of Whiteface’s Summit Lift; finishers descend to Little Whiteface for a gondola ride to the base or continue by foot.
Race formats and course
Distances and verticals include:
- One loop / 10k - ~6.5 miles / 10.5 km, ~3,800 ft gain and loss
- Two loops / 21k - ~13.1 miles / 21 km, ~7,700 ft gain and loss
- Ascent - ~2.3 miles / 4 km, ~3,100 ft vertical gain
- Kids Ascent - ~1 mile ascent from top of the gondola
The Marshak Mountain Race uses a lollipop route on mountain utility roads, grassy and hummocky slopes, and sections up to 64% grade. The Ascent follows a direct steep line using alpine slopes, dirt utility road, and hummocky alpine terrain. Aid stations are located mid-mountain and at the summit and provide water, electrolyte drink, and snacks.
Entry options and policies
Entrants may enter individual races or combine events as the Vert Junky. The 2-loop 21k has a course cutoff of 5 hours 55 minutes and requires completion of loop one within 2 hours 45 minutes. The Ascent has a course cutoff of 2 hours 30 minutes with a mid-mountain aid timing requirement. The entry fee includes the event and a tee. Poles are permitted.
