Whiteface Mountain Races

The event offers several race options on July 4 at the Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in Wilmington, New York.

Race Distances

  • Mountain Race (1 Loop): Approximately 6.2 miles (10k) with about 3,900 feet of elevation gain and loss.
  • SkyRace (2 Loops): Approximately 12.5 miles (20k) with about 7,800 feet of elevation gain and loss.
  • Vertical K: Approximately 2.5 miles (4k) with about 3,200 feet of elevation gain.

The Mountain Race and SkyRace start together. The SkyRace is a two-loop version of the Mountain Race course. The course uses mountain utility roads, grassy slopes, and terrain with ascents and descents at roughly a 40% grade. The Vertical K is a direct, steep ascent from the resort base to the summit.

Other Activities

A Kids Klymber event is a roughly one-mile ascent for children and their parents. On the following day, there are informal, no-charge group runs on area trails.

Logistics

Packet pickup is available the day before the race. There are aid stations on the mountain courses providing water, electrolyte drink, and snacks. Finishers of the Vertical K descend from the summit via a gondola or on foot. Course cutoff times apply for all distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
