White Mountains Triathlon
The White Mountains Triathlon is a multi-distance triathlon festival held at Echo Lake in Franconia Notch State Park, with courses that use the lake, nearby roads, and the paved recreation trails of the park. The swim venue is Echo Lake at the base of Cannon Mountain. Transition and the finish area are beachside at Echo Lake Beach.
Races offered
- Sprint: Swim 0.25 mi, Bike 13.2 mi, Run 3.2 mi.
- Olympic: Swim 1500 m, Bike 40 km, Run 6.1 mi.
- Half: Swim 1.2 mi, Bike 56 mi, Run 11.8 mi.
Swims use a time trial start with athletes released at five second intervals; Olympic and Half swimmers complete multiple continuous loops without exiting the water between laps. Wetsuits are mandatory for all races because water temperatures are typically in the low 60s in June. The bike courses include designated aid stations and Gatorade or water bottle exchanges on Olympic and Half routes; the Sprint bike course has no aid stations. All run courses follow paved trails through Franconia Notch and finish beachside at Echo Lake Beach.
The festival is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and serves as the New Hampshire state triathlon championship for 2026. Packet pick-up is available both on the Friday before and on race morning. Post-race provisions include a beachside barbecue and beer garden. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
