Cirque Series - Cannon Mountain

The Cirque Series at Cannon Mountain is a mountain running event located at the north end of Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire. The event is capped at 500 runners and features a course of 6.9 miles with a total elevation gain of 3,080 feet.

The route begins at the Peabody Base Area and ascends the Peabody Slopes toward the Aerial Tramway. Participants then transition to the Kinsman Ridge Trail, a section that gains 2,081 feet of elevation over two miles. This part of the course is characterized by steep, rocky, and secluded terrain. Upon reaching the summit of Cannon Mountain at an elevation of 4,031 feet, the course passes under the Cannonball Quad and descends the Upper Ravine Trail.

Following a short ascent up The Saddle, the race continues through the Mittersill area, descending classic narrow ski trails including Skyline, Ridge Run, and Dragons Drop. After a final elevation push on Baron’s Run, the course finishes back at the Peabody Base Area via Coyote Crossing. The terrain consists of steep, rocky, grassy, and slippery surfaces, with orange flagging used for navigation.

Participants are divided into three registration categories:

  • Sport (68% of runners)
  • Expert (25% of runners)
  • Pro (7% of runners)

A strict cut-off time of 2 hours is enforced at the Cannon Mountain summit. Competitors who do not meet this requirement must take the Aerial Tramway back down. Each participant receives a snapback, a giveaway ticket, a logoed bib, and a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
