Jigger Johnson Ultras - Waterville Valley, NH

The Jigger Johnson Ultras take place August 14-16, 2026 in the White Mountain National Forest, based at Town Square in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. The event offers multiple trail distances that travel over mountainous terrain and exposed ridge lines.

  • 100 Mile - 108 miles, 29,000 feet elevation gain.
  • 50 Mile - 58 miles, about 16,000 feet gain, includes three 4,000 foot summits.
  • 20 Mile - 20.1 miles, 5,900 feet elevation gain.

The 100 mile course is an out-and-back route from Waterville Valley to the South Moat trailhead and returns along a series of ridges and forest tracks, passing named climbs such as Mount Tecumseh, Mount Osceola, Mount Tremont, Big Attitash, and North Moat. The 50 mile route traverses ridgelines and summits including the Osceolas and Mount Tecumseh. The 20 mile course follows mountain trails with a single aid station near Osceola.

Runners must carry mandatory safety and navigation gear. Required items include at minimum two liters of water, a water filter, emergency blanket, GPX file on a device, extra battery pack, cell phone, headlamp with spare batteries, rain jacket, warm hat and gloves, neon reflective vest for road sections, and a basic first aid kit. Drop bags are permitted at aid stations for longer distances; the 20 mile event allows a start/finish drop bag.

Crew access is restricted at remote aid stations. Pacers have specific checkin and gear requirements and are permitted only at designated aid stations. Qualifications vary by distance: the 100 mile entry requires a 50 mile finish within the past year or similar mountain effort, the 50 mile requires a 50 km or similar effort within the past year, and the 20 mile has no formal qualification but recommends mountain experience.
