Event overview

The West Highland Way Race takes place on Saturday 20th to Sunday 21st June 2026. It is a 96 mile ultra marathon along the route of the West Highland Way. The race starts at Milngavie Railway Station and finishes at the Nevis Centre in Fort William. The course includes 14,760 ft of ascent and has a overall time limit of 35 hours. Competitors are required to pass through checkpoints on the route within specified time limits. Current course records are 13:41:08 (men, 2017) and 17:16:20 (women, 2007); a £1,500 bonus is available for any male or female setting a new course record.

Entry and requirements

Entries use a pre-selection list to allocate places. Entry opens 1 November 2025 and closes 30 November 2025. At the pre-selection stage no payment is required; if offered a place, the entrant will be invited to complete payment to confirm entry. The event shows 624 pre-selection participants. Entry fees listed are £157.00 for affiliated members and £160.00 for unaffiliated entrants.

Participants must be aged 20 years or older on race day and must have adequate relevant experience. A minimum qualifying result is completion of a 65K trail race. Each competitor must have their own motorised support team backup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
