West Highland Way Race
The West Highland Way Race is an established ultra-marathon held on the long-distance trail between Milngavie and Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. The route covers approximately 96 miles with around 14,000 feet of ascent. The event was first held in 1985 and has continued as an annual race.
The field is limited to 300 runners. The 41st edition is scheduled for 19th June 2027 and entries open 1st October. For 2027, registration for the ballot will open on 1st October 2026 and remain open until 14th October 2026; ballot results are announced before the end of October. Organisers publish practical race information including race rules, checkpoint locations and cut-offs, medical guidance, route maps and GPX files, toilet locations and volunteer information. Recent updates have included checkpoint adjustments and notices about road closures affecting crews and alternative routes. The race holds a licence issued by Scottish Athletics.
