Ochil 2000s
The Ochil 2000s is a long fell race held on Sat 22-Aug-26 organised by Ochil Hill Runners. The route is listed as AL 33 km with 1770 m of ascent and finishes at Stirling University after running across the Ochil Hills.
The event uses Glen Sherrup carpark in Glen Devon as the start location and the Gannochy Sports Centre at Stirling University for registration and the finish area. Participants are transported to the start by coach. Kit is checked at registration.
Only two short sections of the route are waymarked: from the start onto the open ground below Innerdownie and from the gate at the entrance of Yellow Craig woods back to the university. Runners must cross deer fences only at the three marked crossing points or face disqualification. Taped routes show suggested lines onto the hills and the route into the university is marked because of building work.
There will be orienteering style controls or marshals on the hill summits, including each 2000 foot plus peak in the Ochils and additionally on Colsnaur Hill and Dumyat. Checkpoints on the route include Innerdownie, Whitewisp Hill, Tarmangie Hill, Kings Seat Hill, Andrew Gannel Hill, The Law, Ben Cleuch, Ben Buck, Ben Ever, Blairdennon Hill, Colsnaur Hill, Menstrie and Dumyat.
Competitors are required to carry a map, whistle, compass, full waterproof body cover, hat and gloves. A mobile phone is recommended. There are six marshals on the hills and a charge applies for a lost SI dibber. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
