Watermelon Stampede
The Watermelon Stampede is a community running event held in Muscatine at the Muscatine Community YMCA, 1823 Logan St. Main road races take place on city streets and youth races are held on paved surfaces.
Distances offered:
- 5K road race
- 10K road race
- 100 meters for ages 4 and under
- 1/4 mile for ages 5 and 6
- 1/2 mile races for ages 7 to 12 in age and gender divisions
Entry fees and registration categories are specified with early and late rates and are nonrefundable. Main race entry fees include an early registration fee and a higher late registration fee; a separate fee is listed for cross country. Youth entry fees include an early rate and a late rate.
Awards are given by gender and age divisions. The 5K and 10K have equal awards for first place male and female in Open and Masters divisions. Age-group medals are awarded and watermelons are given to age group winners. Youth awards include watermelons for top finishers in the oldest divisions, medals for top places in age groups for ages seven and older, and participation ribbons for all finishers. T-shirts are available for early registrants and a number of watermelons are distributed by random drawing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
