Watermelon Stampede - 49th Annual
The Watermelon Stampede is a community running event held August 14-15, 2026 at the Muscatine Community YMCA, 1823 Logan St, Muscatine, IA. The weekend includes a kids program on the first day and 5K and 10K races on the second day. The 5K and 10K run on city streets and all races are conducted on paved surfaces. Reduced registration fees apply for cross country team members and coaches for the 5K and 10K.

Kid event details include combined non-competitive divisions for the youngest ages and competitive half-mile races for older youth. Awards for the kids program include watermelons for first male and female in the three oldest divisions, medals for the top six in those divisions, participation ribbons for all finishers, T-shirts for the first 100 registrants, and 15 watermelons distributed by random drawing.
For the 5K and 10K there are Open (age 39 and under) and Masters (age 40 and over) divisions. Equal awards are given to first place male and female; medals are awarded to the top three in each age category and a watermelon is given to each age group winner. T-shirts are provided to the first 300 registrants. Event sponsors include Muscatine Running Club, Muscatine Community YMCA, Ed Morse Automotive Group, and Pepsi-Cola Bottling Davenport.
