About the race
The Watermelon Stampede is a community running event hosted by the Muscatine Running Club at the Muscatine Community YMCA, 1823 Logan St. Main events take place on city streets and children's races are held on paved surfaces. The event dates are Friday, August 20, 2027 for the Kid's Run and Saturday, August 21, 2027 for the 5K and 10K events.
Distances include:
- 5K
- 10K
- Kids: 100 meters for 4 and under
- Kids: 1/4 mile for ages 5 and 6
- Kids: 1/2 mile for ages 7 to 12
Entry fees for the 5K and 10K are $28 through August 17 and $35 for late registration; a Cross Country entry option is listed at $15. Kid's Run fees are $15 through August 17 and $20 late. Packet pickup and registration are available Friday, Aug. 20 from noon to 6:00 pm at the Muscatine YMCA, with additional day of race registration and packet pickup Saturday morning.
Awards are given by age and division. For the 5K and 10K there are Open (age 39 and under) and Masters (age 40 and over) divisions with equal awards to first place male and female. Medals go to the top three in each age category and age group winners also receive watermelon prizes. T-shirts are provided to the first registrants for each race and additional watermelons are distributed by random drawing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
