Watermelon Stampede - 49th Annual
The Watermelon Stampede - 49th Annual is a multi-distance running event held at the Muscatine Community YMCA, 1823 Logan St, Muscatine, Iowa. The event includes youth races, a 5K race/walk, and a 10K run held on city streets. All races use paved surfaces.
Distances and formats:
- Kid's races: 100 meters, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile across age groups
- 5K Race/Walk
- 10K (no walkers)
Packet pickup and registration are available at the Muscatine Community YMCA on the day before the main races and on race day at the YMCA. Reduced registration fees are offered for cross country team members and coaches for the 5K and 10K events.
Awards and amenities are provided by the organizers. For the 5K and 10K, the Open division is age 39 and under and the Masters division is 40 and over; medals are awarded to the top three in each age category and watermelons are given to age group winners. Kid divisions award watermelons to top finishers in the oldest divisions, medals for top placings, participation ribbons for all finishers, and T-shirts and random watermelon giveaways for early registrants. Sponsors include Muscatine Running Club, Muscatine Community YMCA, Ed Morse Automotive Group, and Pepsi-Cola Bottling Davenport. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
