Event Overview
The WPPL-FM 103.9 Walk the Line 5K is a summer running event held in the geographic heart of Appalachia. The race takes place in McCaysville, Georgia, and Copperhill, Tennessee, featuring a course that crosses the state line twice. For the 2026 edition, the event incorporates a Christmas-in-July theme with holiday music and festive decorations.
The course covers a distance of 3.1 miles and is primarily paved. The route winds through the downtown areas of both McCaysville and Copperhill, running alongside the Toccoa River and crossing one steel bridge. The terrain is mostly flat with one hill included on the path. The event is open to runners, walkers, participants with strollers, and dogs.
Participation Details
The Walk the Line 5K is part of the Riverwalk Run Series and serves as an official qualifier for the AJC Peachtree Road Race. Participants can choose between two entry types:
- 5K Run/Walk (In-person)
- Virtual 5K Run/Walk
All finishers receive a medal. Awards are presented to the overall top male and female finishers, as well as winners in age groups ranging from 0-9 to 80+. Free parking is available for participants across from McCaysville City Park. The event takes place rain or shine, and water is provided for participants at the finish line.
The start and finish lines are located at different points. Bib and shirt pickup is organized at the McCaysville Visitor Center on the afternoon of the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
