Walk A Mile In Her Shoes - York
Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is a community event focused on raising awareness and funds to address gender-based violence, sexual assault, and rape. This national movement, which has been recognized since 2001, serves as a public act of solidarity. All proceeds from the event support YWCA York, specifically funding crisis services, emergency shelters, prevention programs, and a crisis hotline for survivors within York County.
The route for this event covers a distance of 1 mile. Participants begin at 31 N. Pershing Avenue and proceed down Market Street to Continental Square. The walk continues through the center of the First Friday celebrations before returning along Philadelphia Street. This course is designed to be highly visible to the thousands of community members present in the downtown area.
While the event is part of a national men's march where participants often wear women’s high-heeled shoes to create a visually striking statement, high heels are not a requirement for participation. It is a walking-only event that encourages community members to join as walkers, donors, or supporters to promote safety and healing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
