Waitawa Regional Park - Auckland Trail Run & Walk Series
Waitawa Regional Park sits on the south east coast of Auckland and is made up of three small peninsulas. The park offers trails through native bush and frequent sea views across the Firth of Thames from high points.
Courses begin with a climb along the main road before moving onto single track that includes bermed corners and fast rolling sections originally shaped by mountain biking. The terrain has noticeable undulation but does not feature very technical sections or extreme elevation changes noted at some other venues. Compulsory participant briefings are held before each event.
Facilities and event rules are noted at the event base on Clevedon-Kawakawa Road. The event is cup free; reusable cups, hydration packs or bottles are expected. Drink stations are located on course and provide PURE electrolyte hydration, water and light snacks. Parking at the event base can be limited.
Safety and biosecurity are emphasised. Participants are asked to keep footwear clean and disinfected to help prevent Kauri Dieback and to avoid Kauri roots by staying on marked tracks. Carrying basic safety items and sufficient hydration is recommended for on-course time away from the event base. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
