Waitawa Regional Park : Auckland Trail Run & Walk Series
Waitawa Regional Park sits on the south east coast of Auckland across three small peninsulas. The terrain includes native bush, sculpted single-track trails and repeated sea viewpoints overlooking the Firth of Thames. Many trails feature bermed corners and fast rolling sections; each course begins with a climb on the main road before entering single track.
The event offers four course distances:
- Short: 7.7 km, 278 m total climb, run or walk
- Mid: 11 km, 362 m total climb, run or walk
- Long: 16.6 km, 487 m total climb, run only
- Super Long: 21.6 km, 695 m total climb, run only
Drink stations are placed on course at planned kilometre points and provide PURE electrolyte hydration, water, ready salted chips, biscuits, oranges and lollies. GPX files and participant briefings are available for each course. The event base is at 1191 Clevedon-Kawakawa Road, Kawakawa Bay, 2585; parking can be limited and carpooling is suggested.
The organiser operates a cup free policy; reusable cups or hydration packs are encouraged and small collapsible cups or soft flasks are available for purchase. Course safety guidance recommends carrying 500 ml to 1 litre of fluid, a basic first aid kit, a cell phone, a whistle and additional warm clothing. Event medics are stationed at base and marshals may carry first aid on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
