Shorebird Coast Run 2026 : Event Overview
The Shorebird Coast Run takes place at Pūkorokoro/Miranda on 17 October 2026. The event is based at Rays Rest Reserve and follows the coastal Hauraki Rail Trail on mostly hard packed sand, grass and smooth metal trail surfaces. The course is described as flat and wide, suitable for walkers and runners with separate categories.
Distances offered include:
- 21K (Half Marathon)
- 10K
- 5K
- Kuaka Kids Race 1.5 km
The 21K is a two lap out-and-back from Rays Rest Reserve. All courses pass notable local landmarks such as the Pūkorokoro Shorebird Centre, the Taramaire Wildlife Reserve pond, the Access Bay Train Shelter and the Robert Findlay bird hides across expansive mudflats that host migratory birds. Aid stations provide water and electrolytes on course and the event operates a cup free policy, so participants are asked to bring a reusable cup or use event cups sold by the organisers.
The Kuaka Kids Race is a 1.5 km loop for ages 4 to 12 that includes themed stations representing migratory stops, a goody pack for every child and a prize for best bird costume. Entry for the kids race is listed at $5. Finishers in the 5K, 10K and 21K receive a handmade custom medal. Dogs are not permitted due to the sensitive wildlife area. Food trucks and coffee are available on site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
