Jurassic Coast Challenge : event summary
The Jurassic Coast Challenge is a three-day event that covers a marathon distance each day along the Jurassic Coast between Charmouth and Shell Bay, Studland. The course runs from west to east and includes the full circumnavigation of Portland. The event HQ is at Mason Hall, Portland, and acts as meeting point, catering area, reception, massage and first aid location throughout the event.
Each day uses self-navigation along the coastal footpath. There are checkpoints approximately every 10 km where participants are checked in and times logged. Checkpoints provide energy bars, snacks, water, squash, coke and hot drinks at some stops. Medical staff are present at checkpoints and at the HQ. Meals at the finish each day include a bowl of hot homemade soup and a bread roll.
Transport is provided between the event HQ and the daily starts and finishes. Participants may leave vehicles at the HQ and use minibus transfers before and after each day. Start groups are used on day one: one group for walkers and joggers only, a second group for runners only; allocation is published in the participant information pack.
