Virginia 100 Mile
The Virginia event offers four trail distances on the New River Trail near Max Meadows, Virginia. The route follows a 57-mile rails-to-trails path mostly alongside the New River and passes rapids, waterfalls and several long, old train trestles. The trail surface is dirt and crushed gravel with minimal elevation change; much of the route is flat or on a 1% grade.
The weekend includes running, camping, and local food and drinks organized by Run Bum Races. Aid stations are located approximately every 5-8 miles and there is extensive crew access along the course. The event takes place during peak fall colors along the river.
Distances:
- 100 mile 33 hour cutoff; about 2,000 ft gain; finishers receive a buckle
- 50 mile 16 hour cutoff; about 1,700 ft gain
- 50k 12 hour cutoff; about 1,100 ft gain
- 25k 6 hour cutoff; about 700 ft gain
Additional notes include a high finish rate reported between the 50 mile and 100 mile events and fast recorded finishing times in recent years. There is a volunteer program: a person who provides a volunteer for at least six hours earns a 50% discount on a future Run Bum Race of 50 mile or less and the volunteer receives credit toward a future race.
