Event overview
The Virginia 100 and 50 mile is a trail ultramarathon event organized by Run Bum Races in Max Meadows, VA, held on the New River Trail, a 57 mile rails-to-trails path along the New River. The course runs mostly beside the river, includes several long former rail trestles and passes Foster Falls. The trail surface is dirt and crushed gravel. Elevation change is minimal, with most sections flat or at about a 1% grade. The weekend includes running, camping and local food and drinks.
Race details
- 100 Mile - 31 hour cutoff; 1,500 ft gain or less; finishers get a buckle
- 50 Mile - 14.5 hour cutoff
Aid stations are spaced roughly every 5-8 miles and will be fully stocked; drop bags and crew access are available. All races have individual aid station cutoffs. Organizers state a finisher award and a pint glass are guaranteed for runners registered by September 1. Mandatory fees include a $5 per person donation to local rescue squads and a $7 park entrance fee per car per day (waived with an annual pass). In 2025 more than 30 runners completed the 100 mile in under 24 hours and the combined finish rate for the two distances was reported as 95%.
