About the race
The Open Door Café Stuffed Strut takes place in downtown Wytheville at the Open Door Café (650 West Main Street, Wytheville, VA 24382) on Thanksgiving morning, 11/26/2026. The main course is a relatively flat paved route around downtown Wytheville. November mornings in this climate can be frigid, so participants are advised to dress accordingly.
The event program includes multiple event types and formats:
- 5K
- 1 mile (kids Fun Strut)
Multiple 5K divisions are offered, including chip timed runs and wheelchair races, a non‑timed walk, a three‑person 5K relay with chip timing, and a free cross country team challenge for middle and high school runners. Awards or recognition are given to first, second, and third place finishers in several age and mobility categories. The kids 1 mile is for children under 10; children under 5 register free, and children 5–9 have a $10 registration that supports café meals.
Parking is available at the Café, next door at the HOPE Ministry Center, and across Main Street in a church parking lot. On-site registration opens at 6:45 am. Warm refreshments are served immediately after the event concludes.
All proceeds benefit the Open Door Café. Recent reporting notes the café served nearly 17,000 meals last year, more than 13,000 of which were subsidized; special event proceeds help subsidize those meals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
