New River Trail Races : Fries, VA
The New River Trail Races take place on April 10, 2027 in Fries, Virginia, inside New River Trail State Park. Each distance is an out and back course that is 100% dirt, flat, and runs along the New River and Chestnut Creek.

- 50 K
- 25 K
- 10 K
- 5 K free community 5k, untimed
Aid stations are positioned along the courses and are stocked with electrolyte drink, water, Coke, PB&J, salty snacks, candy, and fruit, with hot foods at select stations. The event is cupless; runners must carry at least one water bottle or cup as no disposable cups are available. The 50k and 100k use a common set of aid stations; the 25k and 10k use fewer stations.
Drop bags are permitted for 50k and 100k runners at the Start/Finish area and will be transported to the designated turnaround point and returned later in the day. Packet pick-up takes place at the Start/Finish area on the Friday before the race and on race morning.
Headlamps or flashlights are required for the 100k and recommended for the 50k. Parking is across a grassy field with limited lighting. A state park day fee applies unless a monthly or annual pass is held.
Awards and finish items: 10k, 25k, and 50k finishers receive a finisher's medal; 100k finishers receive a buckle. Overall and age group awards are presented, and the free community 5k does not include awards, swag, or a finisher medal.
The trail remains open to other users during the event. Limited cell phone service exists on portions of the trail and hand radio operators will assist with communications. Road crossings have variable traffic and volunteers or park staff may assist at some crossings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
