Event overview

The New River Trail Races take place on April 11, 2026, in Fries, Virginia. The event offers four distances:

  • 100k
  • 50K
  • 25K
  • New River Trail 10K

The course is entirely on dirt, is described as flat, and runs along the New River and Chestnut Creek in New River Trail State Park. Each distance is an out-and-back course. The 100k finishers receive a buckle.

Course support and race services

Aid stations are located at set mile points for each distance and are stocked with electrolyte drink, water, Coke, PB&J, salty snacks, candy, and fruit. Hot foods are available at select aid stations. This event is cupless; runners must carry at least one water bottle or cup because disposable cups are not provided. Drop bags are allowed for 50k and 100k runners and are delivered to the Cliffview turnaround; bags must be clearly marked and will be returned to the finish area after the race. Forgotten or abandoned drop bags cannot be mailed and unclaimed items may be recycled, donated, or disposed.

Logistics and policies

Packet pick-up is at the Start/Finish area on the night before the race and on race morning. Headlamps or flashlights are required for the 100k; 50k runners are advised to consider carrying one. Parking is across a grassy field with limited lighting and a Virginia State Parks day parking fee applies unless the entrant holds a valid pass. There are no refunds; entries may be transferred or rolled over under specified conditions, including medical reasons. If registered after April 1, participants will not receive a race shirt. Awards are given for overall and age-group placements across multiple gender categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
