Veterans Salute 5K and 10K (Concord, NC)
The Veterans Salute is a running event presented by American Legion Post 51 in downtown Concord, North Carolina, with multiple distances available:
- 5K
- 10K
- Fun Run (1 mile)
Both the 5K and 10K use courses that run through downtown streets and the Downtown Connector Greenway. The 5K route goes toward Corban Avenue, follows Union and Tribune, returns through the greenway and finishes using the downtown connector. The 10K follows Corban Avenue into the greenway and continues through Lawndale, Patton Avenue, McAllister Avenue, SunnySide, Winfield, Ingleside, Caldwell, Hillcrest and downtown Concord before returning to the finish via Corban Avenue and the downtown connector.
Awards are given to overall top three male and female finishers, top veteran male and female, and the top three male and female finishers in each age group: 10 & under; 11-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75 and over. The courses are USATF certificated: 5K NC24004DF and 10K NC21008DF.
Packet pickup is scheduled the days before the event at the David Phillips Activity Center and there is race day packet pickup. Race day registration is available with a $10 increase for the 5K and 10K; card payment is required for race day entries. Registrations submitted by October 16 are guaranteed a T-shirt. Limited inventory is available for 10K participant sweatshirts. Additional event amenities include a kids zone with inflatables and a Humvee provided by the Army National Guard, and adaptive racing wheelchairs provided through a program that pairs a wheelchair with a runner.
