About the race
The Vernon Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot on 11/26/2026 in Sussex, NJ is a community 5K run and walk organized by Vernon Recreation. The event supports local food assistance efforts and collects nonperishable items for the Harvest House Food Pantry. Harvest House began in 1997 as the VTHS Hunger Project started by 13 Vernon Township High School students and is a nonprofit 501c(3). The program provides nourishing meals through a pickup and go system and currently serves more than 50 people a day.
Proceeds and donated food from the event go toward those community efforts. The course runs through a rural landscape with a mix of hills and turns and includes a noted cheering section of local cows. The event offers participant items for paid registrants including a race bib, a swag bag, and a race T-shirt guaranteed for those registered and paid by 10/31/2026. There are informal prizes for the most festive feathered attire.
