46th Annual Sap Run

The Sap Run is a point-to-point road race organized by St. Albans Nordic as part of the Vermont Maple Festival, a celebration of the local maple syrup industry. The course covers 8.5 miles, beginning at the park in the Village of Swanton and traveling south along Route 7. The race finishes in downtown St. Albans in front of Taylor Park, placing participants at the center of the festival festivities.

The route is conducted on an open road with a wide shoulder. While lead and tail vehicles are present to alert traffic, the road remains open to vehicles, and participants are expected to remain alert at intersections. The event provides at least two aid stations located at approximately 3.5 miles and 5.5 miles. In addition to water and hydration drinks, these stations offer shots of pure maple syrup.

Participants have the option to join as a team. While this is not a relay and every member completes the full distance, teams can compete for a prize based on age group placements. Scoring is based on the top four scores within a team.

Services provided for participants include:

  • 8.5 miles
  • Bus transportation from the St. Albans finish area to the Swanton start line before the race.
  • A clothing transport service to bring warm gear from the start to the finish.
  • Morning registration and bib pickup at the Swanton Public Library.
  • Maple syrup awards for winners in ten-year age groups.

The finish line area features various festival attractions, including food trucks, craft shows, and traditional maple treats such as donuts and creemees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
