About the race
The Champlain Islands Marathon and Half Marathon take place on Sunday, October 17, 2027, in South Hero, Vermont, with race activities centered at the Folsom Education and Community Center on South Street.
Distances
- Half Marathon - 13.1 miles
- Marathon - 26.2 miles
Both courses begin and end near the former home of Clarence H. DeMar. The half-marathon is an out-and-back route along the west shore of South Hero and Grand Isle, passing farms, apple orchards, and summer cottages; terrain is flat to rolling and the entire course is paved. The full marathon consists of two out-and-backs of the half-marathon course. The marathon is USATF certified (VT24002JK) and marked through mile 13.
Aid stations are placed at approximately every 2 miles from mile 2 through mile 24 for a total of 12 stations; water and an electrolyte drink are provided and 2–3 porta-potties are on course. Sweep vehicles provide additional assistance. Time cutoffs are 6 hours for the marathon and 4 hours for the half-marathon.
Entry is limited to 500 runners. Registration fees are listed for each distance and GMAA members receive a small discount. There are no refunds, deferrals, wait lists, or bib transfers. All participants receive a race shirt and finishers receive medals. Runners must be age 16 or older. Awards are given by overall, masters, and age-group categories with no double-dipping across standings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
