Valley of Hartford 5K Road Race
The Valley of Hartford 5K Road Race is an annual event held in Newington, Connecticut, that raises funds for the Children's Dyslexia Centers of Connecticut. The centers provide one-on-one tutorial sessions valued at $5,000 per child and teacher training programs valued at $10,000 per tutor. One hundred percent of race proceeds are distributed to the Children's Dyslexia Centers of Connecticut.
The course is a two-loop route that starts and finishes in front of the Scottish Rite Building at 207 Deming Street. The route includes a mix of ups and downs with moderate hills and is served by multiple water stations and volunteers. Timing is handled with the Trident RFID racing system and Payne's Corner Timing.
Awards include overall winners for male and female and first and second place in age divisions. Age groups are listed from 9-13 up to 80 and over. Event amenities include complimentary T-shirts for the first 200 registrants, on-site refreshments such as baked pastries, fruit, Gatorade and water, and wellness services provided by Roba Physical Therapy and Wellness, which may include massage tables, cupping and compression boots.
Parking is available only at Lay-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries, 3050 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, with entry by way of the Sphinx Shriners and parking at attendees' own risk. Indoor restrooms with air conditioning are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
