Event
The Vale Coastal Races are a set of linear trail races along the Vale of Glamorgan coast on 11 April 2026. Three distances are offered:
- 32.5 miles (Vale Ultra)
- 18.5 miles (Vale Trail)
- 10 miles (Vale Trail 10)
Entry fees are listed as £46 for the Ultra, £36 for the 18.5 mile race and £33 for the 10 mile race. Optional coach transport from the finish to the starts is available for an additional fee. A compulsory kit list must be carried and may vary with conditions.
Course and logistics
All routes follow the Wales Coast Path and are almost entirely on trail, running close to the sea and along clifftops. The Ultra is a point-to-point route from Penarth Pier to Ogmore-by-Sea and passes 19 beaches, with the final section along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast featuring cliffs, rock formations, coves and rolling countryside. The shorter races join the Ultra on the shoreline at points including Porthkerry and Llantwit Major Beach. All races finish at Ogmore-by-Sea Village Hall.
The event is self-navigated but waymarked; competitors receive a marked map and route notes and extra markers are placed at tricky junctions. Manned checkpoints are provided on each course and supply drinks and snacks. The Ultra has a 10-hour time limit; shorter races have time limits of roughly seven to seven and a half hours. Car parking is at Ogmore-by-Sea Rivermouth Car Park and drop bags can be transported from the start to the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
