Event overview
The Vale Coastal Races take place on 11 April 2026 along the Vale of Glamorgan coast, organised by Run Walk Crawl and based at Ogmore-by-sea. There are three linear trail races that finish together at Ogmore-by-Sea Village Hall, with the final climb known as the "Hill of Doom". The route follows the Wales Coast Path for its entire length and stays close to the sea.
Distances
- 32.5 miles Vale Ultra - point-to-point along the entire Vale of Glamorgan Coast Path, passing 19 beaches and with the final 14 miles on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast.
- 18.5 miles Vale Trail 18.5 - joins the Ultra route on the shoreline at Porthkerry.
- 10 miles Vale Trail 10 - follows the final 10 miles of the longer routes, joining at Llantwit Beach and passing Southerndown and Ogmore.
Navigation, checkpoints and kit
The course is self-navigated but follows the well signposted Wales Coast Path. Competitors receive a marked map and detailed route notes; extra markers are placed at tricky junctions. There are manned checkpoints providing water, energy drinks, squash and a range of snacks (Ultra: 5; 18.5: 3; 10: 2). A compulsory kit list must be carried.
Logistics and entry
The event is linear; coach transport is offered from Ogmore-by-sea to the starts and drop bags can be left at the start for transfer to the finish. Entry fees are listed as £46 (Ultra), £36 (18.5) and £33 (10). Optional merchandise and event inclusions are provided, including electronic timing, finishers medal, first aid cover and event photographs. Spaces are limited (300 Ultra, 300 Trail 18.5, 200 Trail 10). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
