Uwharrie Mountain Run
The Uwharrie Mountain Run takes place February 6, 2027 in Uwharrie National Forest near Ophir, North Carolina. The event uses Jumping Off Rock Trailhead on Flint Hill Road as a primary location and includes multiple point to point and out and back courses on single track trails.
Distances offered:
- 40 miles - out and back course, 12.5 hour time limit.
- 20 miles - point to point, finishes at Wood Run Trailhead on Highway 24/27.
- 8 miles - point to point, finishes at Highway 109 Trailhead.
The 40 mile course turns around at the 20 mile point. For safety, 40 mile runners will be stopped at the 32 mile point after 5:00 pm, at the 35 mile point after 6:00 pm, and at the 38 mile point after 7:00 pm. To continue past the 32 mile point after 4:00 pm, runners must carry a light.
Trails include rocks, roots, and creek crossings typical of winter single track terrain. The event provides well stocked aid stations, long sleeve race shirts for participants, complimentary parking and shuttle service, finish food and refreshments, and volunteer support. All finishers receive pottery awards and the male and female overall winners receive Altra shoe certificates. Registration opens November 1, 2026 and closes November 29, 2026; fees are $100 for 40 miles, $80 for 20 miles, and $60 for 8 miles. Volunteers are offered early entry into the following year's race.
