Event Overview
The United Way of Marathon County Turkey Trot is a community running event held on Thanksgiving morning in Wausau, Wisconsin. The race takes place in the downtown area, with the course starting and finishing at the 400 Block. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Hunger Coalition, an initiative that strengthens the local food system and supports food pantries throughout Marathon County.

Course and Participation
The 5 km route remains consistent with previous years. Participation is capped at 2,600 runners, and registration fees increase after the initial early period. All proceeds from the event remain within the local community to fund the purchase of fresh produce from Marathon County farmers for those in need. Participants who choose to opt out of receiving a race shirt contribute the saved costs directly toward these food security efforts.
Participant Information
The event is open to runners and walkers of various ages. Children under the age of eight who do not require a t-shirt or race bib may participate without registration. Strollers are permitted on the course. The event is also dog-friendly, provided that pets are kept on a leash, cleaned up after, and positioned toward the back of the starting line. Please note that while dogs are welcome outdoors, they are not permitted inside The Grand Theater during packet pickup.
Pre-race packet and t-shirt pickup is organized at The Grand Theater on the day before the event. Participants may have others collect their packets for them to reduce congestion on the morning of the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
