Event overview
WausaUltra is a multi-day trail event in Sylvan Park, Wausau, WI, held over May 1-3, 2026. The event uses a single loop course of 4.167 miles that serves as the course for all race options. The start and finish area is in a small field with space for participant tents, aid, bathroom facilities, and parking.
Race formats and distances
- Limitless: Participants run repeated 4.167-mile laps of the same loop and continue until only one participant remains or until the event reaches its scheduled end. This format follows a backyard / last-runner-standing style. Entry fee: $200.
- Solo and Double: Entrants choose to complete 1 or 2 laps (two laps total 8.334 miles) on the same loop. Time to complete is measured cumulatively. Entry fees vary by registration date: early pricing and later pricing tiers are specified for each option.
There is also a free kids' race for children 12 and under with an expected distance slightly less than half a mile.
Course and entry rules
The loop is mostly trail and hilly, featuring gravel approaches, single-track sections, climbs and descents, a creek and several small bridges. Racers return to the home base every lap. Eligible adult entrants must be 18 or older on race day, or 18 with a parent or guardian present. Registration closes on April 29, 2026, and there are no race-day sign-ups. Registrations are final; transfers between individuals are allowed but refunds or deferrals are not offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
