Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge - Winter Edition
The Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge - Winter Edition takes place in Merrill, WI on December 5, 2026. The event offers map-and-compass navigation with route choices, checkpoints, obstacles, and special challenges over wintry terrain.
Racing formats include solo entries and teams of two to four who must stay together during the race. Disciplines on course include trekking and running, orienteering, biking, and optional snowshoeing. Biking is optional; fat tire bikes may be used but are not required. Most biking occurs on plowed paved and gravel surfaces, though the 6-hour course may include less often plowed gravel roads depending on snow. The race will be held regardless of snow cover. Snowshoes can be rented during registration.
Distances and navigation notes:
- 3-hour LITE: Trek ~7 km (4 miles), Bike ~15 km (9 miles), GPS allowed
- 6-hour: Trek ~13 km (8 miles), Bike ~28 km (17 miles), No GPS
- 3-hour No bike: Trek ~11 km (7 miles), No GPS
Divisions cover 2-4 person Male, Female, Coed, Family teams, and Solo Male and Solo Female categories. Entry fees vary by distance and registration period and participant caps apply to each race. Included items: pre-plotted maps, facility and land use fees, a swag item, mid-race hot beverages and food for applicable races, post-race meal and beverages, a custom finisher award, and awards in every division. The event is organized by IRONBULL and is part of the Wisconsin Adventure Racing Series and the USARA point series; note that only 6-hour racers are included in those series rankings.
