Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk - Fire Island, NY
This event takes place on July 26, 2026 in Ocean Beach, New York. It is a 5K run and walk that honors first responders and remembers those lost on September 11, 2001 while raising funds for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This is the fourth year the event is held in Ocean Beach.
Packet pick up is at SandBar in Ocean Beach on Saturday, July 25 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with same day packet pick up beginning Sunday, July 26 at SandBar starting at 7:30 AM. Additional packet pick up on Long Island will be scheduled; ferry schedules for Bay Shore to Ocean Beach will be posted when available. Ocean Beach does not allow cars; parking is available at the Fire Island Ferries in Bay Shore, and participants are advised to allow time for parking and ferry travel.
The event includes on-site water at the start and finish and water stations along the route. Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted, and firefighter turnout gear and military backpacks are allowed. A bag check will be available at SandBar; items are stored at the owner’s risk. Bibs must be displayed on the front of the outermost garment; participants without a bib will not be allowed to finish. Runners predicting a pace faster than six minute per mile will be seeded in the front corral.
Awards will include top male and female finishers and age category awards, with special recognition for firefighters, police, and military running in gear. Emergency medical services and radio communication will be available on site. Registration is available through organizers, donations can be accepted for six weeks after the event, and registration fees do not count toward individual fundraising goals.
