This community event honors the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and supports first responders and military through the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The Medina edition marks the 13th local event and coincides with the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
The course is a 5K (3.1 miles) open to runners and walkers. Registration categories and fees listed by the organizer include adult registration ($25), first responders and military ($20), youth 13 to 17 years ($10), and children 12 and under ($5). Online registration opens March 18 and remains available until the start of the event; day-of registration is allowed but event merchandise and shirt sizes are not guaranteed for late registrants.
Packet pickup locations and times are provided: Medina Fire Department Station 1 (300 W. Reagan Pkwy) on the Friday and Saturday before the event, and at the Medina Historic Public Square on race morning. Municipal parking lots and garages are available near the Square. Public restrooms are on the northwest side of the Square next to Second Sole; porta-johns are located at the rear of the fire station.
Participants must display their bib on the front of their outermost garment. A water station is set up at the fire station on the route and at the finish. Runners predicting a pace faster than 6 minute/mile are seeded in the front corral; runners start first, then first responders in gear, with walkers, strollers, and participants with dogs placed last. Strollers, wheelchairs, firefighter turnout gear, and military backpacks are permitted. An Emergency Medical Service team and radio communication will be available on site. Donations and fundraising are supported; registration fees do not count toward fundraising totals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
