Lake Side Aquathlon
The Lake Side Aquathlon is a biannual adult and junior Grand Prix aquathlon held at the Lakeside Centre in Killingworth. The event uses the centre pool for the swim then a run past the lakeside and through nearby woodland around the Killingworth Lakeside Centre.
The event is a Regional junior Grand Prix and includes both junior and adult categories. Results are posted to the Tyne Triathlon Club website. Any competitor aged 8 or above on 31 December is eligible to enter. British Triathlon members are covered by membership; nonmembers are directed to purchase a race pass when they sign up.
Adults are seeded by swim time with slower swimmers starting first; junior age groups are not seeded by time. Trophies are awarded for first, second and third overall in open and female categories for adults. Junior trophies are awarded for first, second and third where there are four or more competitors in an age group; if fewer than four, only first prize is given.
Typical kit and equipment include goggles, a swimsuit or tri suit, and trainers. A swim cap and a number belt are optional. Parking is generally directed to the Matalan car park because the Lakeside Centre has limited parking capacity.
