About the race
Trek the Forest in Rotorua is a trail event around Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake) with routes that extend into the Whakarewarewa forest and offer views of Green Lake and old growth forest. The event is scheduled for 17th October 2026 and is based at Lake Tikitapu.
The course options are:
- 5.5 km short loop around Lake Tikitapu
- 13.7 km mid course that enters forest trails
- 15.6 km long course that goes deeper into the forest
Track conditions are mostly well-formed, with approximately 90% good track and about 10% more technical single-track sections. Elevation gain differs by route: the short course has about 96 m of ascent, the mid course about 421 m, and the long course about 479 m. The mid and long courses include scenic forest sections and glimpses of Green Lake, while the short course remains largely a lakeside loop.
