About the race
The Rotorua Off Road Half Marathon is a trail running event held in the Whakarewarewa Forest area, starting and finishing at the Waipa Recreation Area. Courses follow pine-needle trails, packed dirt paths, forest roads and singletrack through native trees, mud pools and fern-lined sections with some climbs and downhill stretches.
Distances include:
- 21.1 km (two laps of the 10.5 km course)
- 10.5 km (one lap)
- 5.5 km
- 3 km kids fun run
- 2 km kids fun run
The 10.5 km loop contains two aid stations; the half marathon uses four aid stations on the two-lap course. The shorter events have an aid station at the finish. Water and R-Line electrolyte drink are provided at aid stations and the finish line. All finishers receive a finishers medal; merit prizes are awarded to the first three males and females in select events, and spot prizes are drawn at prize giving.
Age minimums are set by distance: 16 years for the half marathon, 12 years for the 10.5 km, and 5 years for the 5.5 km. A 10.5 km Team Challenge allows teams of three or more with combined placings determining team results. Entry fees vary by distance, student status and booking period, with discounts for school students and group entries of 10 or more. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
