Dark Skies Run Race Series
The Dark Skies Run Race Series is an evening trail running event organised by Trail Outlaws at Kielder Waterside. Kielder holds gold tier Dark Sky Park status from the International Dark Skies association since December 2013, giving runners prolonged views of a dark, starry sky during the event.
Multiple distance options are offered:
- 26.6 miles and 10 km double option
- 26.6 miles single event
- 11 miles
- 10 km
Entry prices range from £25 to £70 with a small set of specific offers available. Event services reported by participants include marked routes, aid stations with snacks and drinks, marshals on the course, and a heated tipi at the event hub that is used after the run. Finishers receive a medal and food and drink are available for purchase; some participants mention hot soup being served at the finish.
Feedback from past editions notes both positive organisation and a few operational issues: several runners reported small or hard to see route signs at key turns, occasional course detours near the water, and instances where electronic chip timing or official tracking was not provided as expected.
