Touws 9km Circuit Hike & Row
This event combines a circular hike with a guided canoe trip on the Touw River near Wilderness in the Western Cape. The meeting venue is Fairy Knowe Hotel at 1 Dumbleton Crescent, Wilderness.
The walk covers 9 km with approximately 70 m of elevation gain and is expected to take about 2.5 to 3 hours. The route follows a well maintained trail through forest and along the river and passes Wilderness Beach, where dolphins or whales can sometimes be seen.
The paddle explores calm waterways of the Touw River toward the river mouth. Canoes are provided and are equipped with large splash proof buckets for valuables such as cameras, snacks and daypacks. The published fee is R450 per person and includes SANParks conservation fees, canoe rental and a guided experience. The typical age range shown for participants is 12 and up. The organiser is Venture Butik.
Participants must carry the compulsory emergency kit required for Venture Butik hikes. Required items include a suitable lightweight hydration pack or backpack, 1 to 2 litres of water, sunscreen, a hat, appropriate shoes for hiking or beach use, trail snacks, a lightweight windproof jacket or fleece, and a beanie and gloves depending on weather.
