Tour of Anchorage - Overview
The Tour of Anchorage is a point-to-point cross-country ski marathon organized by the Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage. The event has evolved since 1988 and is held in a point-to-point format when snow permits; in low-snow years the event is run in alternative formats such as the Snow Making Loop at Kincaid.
Races are offered for both skiing and fatbike. Ski events are available in both Freestyle and Classic techniques.
- 25 km
- 40 km
- 50 km
The longer ski courses start on the Anchorage Hillside and traverse the city using ski and multi-use trails, tunnels, bridges, and greenbelts that allow travel across town without crossing roads. The 25 km ski races start in midtown at Alaska Pacific University and connect to the longer courses. All races finish at the ski stadium in Kincaid Park overlooking Cook Inlet.
Logistics include bag drop and shuttle services between start areas and Kincaid, numerous aid stations that provide snacks and hydration and act as safety check points, limited parking at Kincaid Park, and merchandise available at bib pickup. Registration uses tiered pricing and includes a nonrefundable, nontransferable policy for entry fees. There is no day-of registration.
Trail and bike rules emphasize multi-use etiquette: pass on the left, avoid riding in classic ski tracks, helmets are required for bikes, a minimum tire width of 3.7 inches and a noisemaker are required, and lights are recommended if finishing in the dark. Awards are given by category and all finishers receive an award at the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
