Tiadaghton Trail Challenge
The Tiadaghton Trail Challenge is a trail running event held at the Tiadaghton State Forest Resource Management Center near Waterville, PA, in the Pine Creek Valley. The event offers two race distances and follows singletrack, old wagon roads, quarry grades, and forest roads through hemlock and oak stands.
- Half Marathon
- 10K
Courses run on technical, rocky, and moss-covered trails with sustained climbs and steep descents. Scenic features along the routes include valley vistas, trout streams, small cascading waterfalls, shale outcrops, and remnants of old quarries and a former fire tower site. Aid stations are fully stocked with typical trail nutrition and fluids. Awards are presented to the first male and female overall finishers, and pre-registered participants receive event swag. A post-race celebration includes food.
The 10K is a loop that begins and ends at the forest resource center, follows the Old Wagon Road and Gleason Trail to the Tiadaghton Trail, and returns via the Pine Creek Rail Trail and PA-44. The half marathon adds an approximately 2-mile ridge loop to the high point of Huntley Mountain, includes the Eiger Trail with a steep climb, the Log Slide Trail descent, the Wolf Path ascent, and finishes via Middle Hill Trail back to the DCNR building.
All proceeds support a memorial scholarship fund that awards at least one graduating senior from the local high school each year. Registration rules state no refunds, deferrals, bib transfers, bandits, or same-day registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
